How many times have you been at a chamber event and you ask someone “Is there anything that I can do to help you?” or offer “Let me know if there is anything I can do to help you” and the person replies, “Buy my product or service” or “Pass me a referral”.

When I hear people just asking for a referral, I hear, “I can’t think of anything right now, but I will let you know if I do.” What a lost opportunity! People can help you in more ways than just passing referrals or leads.
Below is a list of a few options of things that you can ask for that will help grow your business.

1. You could put an article about my services in your newsletter, and I will do the same for you.
2. You could nominate me for an award.
3. You could attend an event with me and we can introduce each other to the attendees.
4. You could display my information or products in your office or store.
5. You could mention me in your blog, or comment on my blog.
6. You could invite your best client to a chamber function so I could meet them.
7. You could WRITE me a great testimonial that I could used in my materials.
8. We can co-host a chamber function together.

There are so many other things that we can do for each other that will add value to our business… instead of always asking for a referral, ask for something else. People are more than willing to help you, just give them other opportunities.

REMEMBER: If you are asking others to help you, then you must be willing to reciprocate.

PLEASE COMMENT: What would you want done to help you?

PJ Day!!! PDF  | Print |  E-mail

How would you like to spend a day of work, all in your PJs (or sweats, or just casual)?

In working with Robin Lavitch of Plan-It Life Coaching, we set out for me to have at least 1 “PJ” day a month .
What’s a PJ day? For me, I need a day in the office to take care of:
Emails
Newsletters & Blogs
Returning phone calls
Placing Orders
Planning
And all the other lovely details involved with running a business!

I find it very difficult to have a few meetings, get a little office work done, a few more meetings, a little more office work, etc… SO, we worked out that I would take one day a week when I am in the office, focused, and getting work done. The other 4 days a week, I can be out networking, helping our clients create plans for their promotional items, training networkers on how to better grow their business, etc..

I love my PJ days… and I thank Robin for helping me get this balance in my week!

I first joined BNI in 2005… and since then, I have seen over 500 10 minute presentations… some were amazing, while some could have used a little help. I am going to talk about 5 ways to derail your 10 Minute Presentation, but our focus is more on things not to do, instead of your content.

Instead of on the content (There are a few amazing trainings you can attend that’ll help in those areas)
Below are 5 things you can do so that you do not Derail your 10 Minute!

10 Visitors to your next 10 Minute Presentation PDF  | Print |  E-mail

I have been asked by a couple people for my formula on how to get 10 visitors to my BNI chapter when I am presenting… and so I am putting it up here on my blog, with best wishes on getting 10 visitors to YOUR chapter!!!
For simplicity, I have laid my system out into a spreadsheet:

How to have 10 Visitors Present for your Presentation
Steps: 6 weeks 5 weeks 4 weeks 3 weeks 2 weeks 1 week Mon b4 Day b4
Schedule Presentation X
Plan Topic   X
Top 30 list of people to invite     X
Save the Date email to invitees     X
Write Presentation     X X
News Release       X
Include in your newsletter       X X X
Invite 30 people on list         X
Follow up on "yes" with Email             X
Follow up "yes" w/ phone call               X

This is MY system that I have used and found successful...

Now, why do I want to have 10 visitors there?
+ The energy of the meeting goes up tremendously.
+ You now have the opportunity to have those 10 people hear you talk about your company, and what you are currently looking for (which will help you grow your business). This can help you move through the V-C-P process.
+ You are introducing your chapter members and visitors, and creating a Shade 12 or 13 Referral (from 16 Shades of Referral from the Certified Networker Program) verses just having them connect at another time without you.
+ You will have 10 visitors for your chapter, and the potential for those visitors to join.
